The new year is up and running and have proven to be VERY busy for me.

If your child does not have headphones at school, please send in a pair so they can have their own to use.  I do have some available for those who are not available to send them in, please just let me know with a call or an email.

We will begin NWEA testing on Monday for grades 2, 3, and 4.  They will be testing in Reading and Math this Fall.  Look for a letter being sent home with further details.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Fall!

We are wrapping up the 2014-2015 school year with CODING for all grades!  Kindergarten through 4th grade have enjoyed learning how to code using the code.org website.  I have sent home the coding passwords for anyone who wants to continue over the summer.

Another note:  I will keep headphones in the computer lab to be used next year.  If any parent wants their headphones back for the summer, please send me a message or a note and I will send them home.  As a rule, I do not send them home unless I hear from a parent.

Thanks and have a great summer!

CODING

Students in grades K-4 will finish off the year learning code.  If you are not familiar with what code is, you can visit Code.org to check this out.  The link is under my favorite links to the right.

Kindergarten & First Grade have been busy with a recent trip to the San Diego Zoo in California, followed up by a trip to New York to visit the Museum of Modern Art.

Grade 2 has been having fun with symmetry.  We have explored several activities and sites where students can learn about symmetry and explore it's features.
It is hard to believe that spring testing is upon us!  Students in grades 3 and 4 have been working very hard to learn how to navigate the new Smarter Balanced assessment site.  We have played several games including a scavenger hunt and Simon says to learn our way around the site.  I feel very confident the students are very well prepared for their upcoming tests.

Next week we will begin ELA and after vacation we will finish up with Math.

Please encourage your children to get a good nights sleep, have a healthy breakfast and do their best on their assessment.

Students in second grade are being introduced to their Google accounts.  This week they simply begin learning how to log in and out!  The first feature that will be introduced to them is Google Draw. After learning to navigate the program, we will do a drawing project using a story book!
Students in Grade 1 are also working in the essential skills program.   They are focusing on word families and short and long vowel sounds.
